After much anticipation and a lot of hype, the ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ trailer has finally been released onto the Internet by Marvel. The trailer teases the new villain, Hela, as well as the battle between Gladiator Hulk and Thor. This movie was directed by Taika Waititi, who also directed the acclaimed films ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ and ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople.’ The film looks to have the director’s trademark quirky sense of humor with a funny adventure starring Chris Hemsworth trying to stop Hela and her possibly apocalyptic-causing assault.
Opening shots of the trailer show our hero bound in chains with lots of fiery light around. It seems as if he breaks the fourth wall by looking directly at the camera and saying, ‘I know what you’re thinking. How did this happen? Well, it’s a long story.’ As he says this, the battle scene between him and Hela arrives. Thor uses his signature move of throwing Mjolnir at her but she just catches it in one hand and it shatters. The stunned look on Thor’s face when she catches it alone would be enough to start laughing but it also shows this new villain is a force to be reckoned with. It then continues showing us more of Hela and one shot of her against what seems to be the entirety of Asgard’s army as they prepare for war. Asgard is supposedly engulfed in flames and the scene cuts to Thor on another planet where he is promptly captured by Valkyrie, another new character introduced in this film. Jeff Goldblum is introduced in this trailer as the Grandmaster, a man who encourages cosmic gladiator games for his own entertainment. Heimdall is then seen in action which is another first in this movie. The trailer then resembles a very Guardians of the Galaxy vibe with many space crafts flying around and people shooting at each other with space gear. There’s a brief shot of Loki in action before the trailer gets into its main event.
Thor, after having received a haircut, enters the gladiator’s arena as the Grandmaster announces his opponent.
‘And now, I give you, the Incredible!…’
Hulk then smashes through the gates of the arena. Thor screams in victory as well as joy and the entire audience is stunned into silence. The triumphant grin on the Grandmaster’s face falls as he and Loki watch from what appears to be the master box. Thor then proceeds to tell them that the Hulk was ‘A friend from work’ The Hulk just ignores that and starts charging towards him and Thor starts charging back. The last shot of the trailer features the two heroes starting to fight and ends in a way that will make thousands of fans excited for the movie.
