All we currently know about the DCEU’s solo “Batgirl” film is that Joss Whedon is to direct, write, and produce. No word yet on a lead actress, besides a rumor about Lindsey Morgan possibly playing the heroine (who is not on this list but I believe would be a great choice). Keep in mind these are my picks for Barbara Gordon, as that is the Batgirl that the film will apparently feature. So who should play Batgirl in the DCEU? Here are our five picks:
1. Emma Stone
Stone is an obvious but unrealistic choice as it will probably never happen. She is practically the embodiment of a live action Barbara Gordon. She has the humorous, likable personality that Babs has, and, of course, the acting skills (Stone recently just won her first Academy Award for her role in “La La Land”). Emma Stone is to Batgirl what Charlie Hunnam is to Green Arrow, both are perfect but neither want to get involved in a franchise like this, unfortunately. But we can dream!
2. Aya Cash
An oddball choice, I know, but do yourself a favor and watch the FX comedy “You’re The Worst” and you’ll understand. Aya has the personality, the acting chops, and she looks of Barbara. The role of Batgirl would also get her the spotlight she definitely deserves.
3. Chloë Grace Moretz
Chloë Grace Moretz has always been one of the top fancasts for Batgirl and it’s understandable why. She was brilliant as Hit-Girl in “Kick-Ass” and Batgirl is a basically less violent version of her. She has a humorous side as well which has been seen in her movies including “Neighbors 2” and the DCEU would greatly benefit from some humorous aspects. She could pull off the action scenes and make Batgirl a well rounded character.
– Raina and Wil
4. Gillian Jacobs
Currently, Gillian Jacobs stars on Netflix’s wonderful series, “Love,” with her previous work including “Community” and “Girls.” Looks and acting-wise, Jacobs would be a perfect Batgirl. She’d bring the right amount of spunk, seriousness, and fun that the role demands.
5. An Unknown
With “Batgirl” coming into our midst I think the proper thing to do for this franchise is cast an unknown. I think Warner Bros. should take a similar course to Lucasfilm and Disney when casting Barbara Gordon. With Lucasfilm and Disney they cast relatively unknown actress with Daisy Ridley to take on the role of Rey in “The Force Awakens”. I think Warner Bros. should adapt this same strategy when casting Batgirl so the audience doesn’t have many preconceived notions about said actress and we could easily see this actress as this character not the actress. Similar to casting of Christopher Reeves as Superman.
Hopefully soon enough we’ll get confirmation on who will play the titular character. Right now, this is all just a pipe dream of ours, but what’s yours? Who would you like to see play Batgirl in the DCEU? Let us know in the comments below.
