The casting news was revealed via LucasFilm.
According to the Star Wars website, “this new film depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi.”
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors, said, “We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us.” “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
This is pretty great casting. Glover is totally capable of embodying everything Lando is, while also putting his own spin on the character.
Glover joins the already cast Alden Ehrenreich. Ehrenreich gained wide recognition after his wonderful performance in “Hail Caesar.” I’ve been a fan of his since “Beautiful Creatures,” so I’m so glad he’s getting a lot of roles now.
The more I hear about this movie, the more excited I am. At first, I couldn’t care less. Then Lord and Miller joined, and I was all in. At this point, they’re basically known as the directors that can take terrible or unnecessary sounding ideas and make great movies out of them (“21 Jump Street” movies and “The Lego Movie”). They have such a distinct style and charm when it comes to their movies, and I can’t wait to see what they cook up with a movie of this scale.
