Martin Scorsese’s next film has finally landed in the winter 2016 season. According to TheWrap the film starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, and Liam Neeson will release on December 23, 2016 in a limited run. It will then expand into a wider release in January 2017.
The film is about Two Jesuit Portuguese Catholic priests face violent persecution when they travel to Japan to seek out their mentor and spread the teachings of Christianity.
I’m happy to see this film moving into the winter movie season because if this movie delivers on the quality then we will see a very interesting Oscar season. This movie could possibly win Scorsese his second Oscar as well as Liam Neeson receiving his first. It’s also interesting how this film will par with other potential nominees such as La, LA, Land, Fences, Loving, Arrival, Nocturnal Animals, and The Birth of a Nation.
While I’m not terribly excited for this film, the subject matter just doesn’t interest me, but it is a Scorsese film with top notch talent. So, I’ll have my ticket in hand on December 23, 2016.
Silence opens December 23, 2016.
