Melissa Rosenberg talks ‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2 and ‘The Defenders’

Marvel, News, TV

Hello Skawd, Darren Leslie Jr. here with an update from the horse’s mouth herself, show runner of “Jessica Jones” Melissa Rosenberg.

Yesterday she was speaking to IGN  about the upcoming season slated for 2018 and “The Defenders” slated for a 2017 release.  Here’s what she had to say, during the 2016 summer TV Critics’ Association press tour about the upcoming season and the connection to “The Defenders.”

“What’s nice for us over on our side of the hall, is if we think — we’re still shaping what we want to do, but we’re like, maybe we can set them up over in the Defenders, let’s go talk to Doug and Marco, and we’re like, ‘Hey, what do you think about this?’ So it’s nice,”  “We’ve started gathering and thinking about where we’re going. We have a big job in front of us. The bar was set pretty high.”

The bar is set high indeed! I’m very happy to see the synergy between the show runners over at Netflix. It would be very cool to see some plot lines flowed over to “The Defenders” to then see continue in “Jessica Jones” season 2.

Rosenberg also gave a little clarity on the threat Jessica will be facing in Season 2. Hint: It’s not Kilgrave.

“We’ll never create that again. That is one of the great iconic characters played by a profoundly talented actor. The objective is not to match that, not to try to do that again.”

Very happy to hear that. Kilgrave was an incredible left field villain for Jessica to face in the first season. But he was also one of a kind. I’m glad they’re not trying to find some way convoluted way to sneak him back into the franchise. His time was great but it has passed. I am curious to see who Jessica will be fighting come season two, though.

Last but not least she was asked about Trish’s potential development into her comic book counterpart Hellcat. Rosenberg explained.

“[There’s] always the promise,” “I mean, for me, the character of Trish is so rich, Hellcat or not. She’s already bad-ass. What’s most interesting to me is their relationship. You know, that friendship, that sisterhood. That’s the core of the show. That’s the core relationship of the show.”

Completely agree. I don’t need to see Trish become Hellcat. She is very much interesting on her own.

Overall Lovely comments from a lovely lady. I loved “Jessica Jones.” It’s my favorite Marvel Netflix show so far and I can’t wait for it to continue.
