The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez dropped the news earlier today.
When Aquaman hits theaters in 2018, he’ll be squaring off against one of his biggest adversaries, Black Manta. This should be welcomed news to a lot of people, since Black Manta was one of the favorites to be the villain in the Aquaman solo movie. The latest version of the character’s origin had Aquaman killing Black Manta’s father as payback for a murder committed by the young Black Manta, which fueled Black Manta’s thirst for vengeance.
This isn’t the first we’ve heard of Black Manta in the DCEU. Common was rumored to be playing the character in Suicide Squad. That would’ve made sense given the time he spent in Belle Reve prison and how Amanda Waller tried to recruit him to join the Suicide Squad. That obviously wasn’t the case as it was later revealed that Common was playing the Tattooed Man.
What do you guys think about Black Manta being the villain in Aqauman, and who do you think should play the character? Let us know in the comments below.
